Reading June Jordan's essays from the 1990s, collected in AFFIRMATIVE ACTS. A good remedy for grief and worry -- solidarity, ancestry, action. Makes sense. It matters to know one's fight is not new and not solitary. Like Dorothy Day wrote, we have all known the long loneliness and we know that the answer is love, and that love comes in community. Thankful for the writing of both of these people.

“Each conversation with her unveiled…the arc of purpose and love that lives at the center of a life worth living.” A beautiful glimpse into a great poet from one of her students. A great way to start the day.

“The whole world will become a home to all of us, or none of us can hope to live on it, peacefully. But much of the American dream mistakenly supposes that, like a tree, we will grow & flourish, standing in one place"
