#WhatchaReading ? I #JustFinishedReading Strange Love by Ann Aguirre and it was the cutest "alien abduction meets The Hunger Games" story ever. 😂 The alien MMC is an adorable cinnamon-roll-in-an-exoskeleton and the sex scenes are so genuinely weird yet somehow also sexy!

#JustFinishedReading "Heartsong" by A E Wasp, one of the books in the #VinoAndVeritas series. The MMCs have some tough issues to go through, but they are so sweet to each other! Shipley's Cider is referenced (IYKYK) and Vermont weather plays a key part in the plot... ⚠️TW for homophobic family members, kidnapping and PTSD because of off the page conversion therapy. I really liked this book!

Just finished reading: The Midnight News, by Jo Baker.
The ambiguity of the protagonist's mind adds a very interesting layer to the WWII story. The story keeps getting more interesting and satisfying even as, or especially when, the plot veers away from what I imagine. So great.

Just finished reading: "How Not to Kill Yourself: A Portrait of the Suicidal Mind", by Clancy Martin.
Still not quite sure what to think. I do not regret reading it. But I am not sure about recommending (or not recommending) this book.
Just finished "The Editor's Wife", by Clare Chambers.
I've enjoyed this book very much, especially the wit in the storytelling.
There's also joy to be had in being reminded by the author (through one of the characters), in a matter-of-fact tone, that extraordinary events are happening in the story.

Just finished reading: "The Last Days of the Dinosaurs", by Riley Black.
This book tells how life continues to recover from the day of the asteroid.

Just finished reading: "Diary of a Void", by Emi Yagi, translated by David Boyd, Lucy North.
A woman pretends she is pregnant, and surrealism kicks in.
The novel is interesting and impactful, but I may not be feeling the intended effect, yet. Definitely going to be on my re-read list.
Also: can we start putting the names of translators on the book covers too?
Just finished reading: "The God of Endings", by Jacqueline Holland.
A story about immortal lives and their endings, this is beautifully written, and the world beautifully realized.
Just finished reading "A Witch in Time", by Constance Sayers.
A curse, and romances through multiple reincarnations. I do wish the story lean in a bit more on destiny and fate from the curse, but I appreciate this story as told, and that's enough.

I don't know nothing…
Just finished reading: "Dr. No", by Percival Everett.
This is really a fun and joyful book about an expert on nothing and an up-and-coming supervillain.
Unfortunately for me, I may not be smart enough to have gotten a lot of the references to social issues.

Just finished reading "Babel: Or the Necessity of Violence: An Arcane History of the Oxford Translators' Revolution", by R.F. Kuang.
It sure is an interesting and thought-provoking book… Unfortunately, for me, I couldn't buy in the world-building, and many of the characters are too one-dimension for my taste, and the story kind-of lost me at half-way mark.

♥️ Small town
♥️ Long time crush
Such a sweet novella, where Clay reluctantly returns home and reconnects with his long time crush

#JustFinishedReading Tall Oaks by Chris Whitaker, proof that even Kindle Unlimited has its gems , the adolescent girl that’s leading character is forceful and vivid , the depiction of the little community on a crumbling coastline is epic a tale of chaos and irrepressible rebirth I loved it❤️
We know how the story started and ended, but there are great fictional imagination here creating a wonderful new story.
Just finished reading "The Christie Affair", by Nina de Garmont.
loved: gag reflex by elle nash
the entire book is a series of 2005 livejournal entries from a teen with an eating disorder
recommended if you grew up as a lonely and sick goth and documented it online

For a novel about an unorthodox arrangement between a writer and another writer whom he stole the plot, as well as a protagonist that is not really unlikeable and not really smart, it managed to convince me to suspend any disbelieve I may have, and just enjoy the story. Good job.
(Just finished reading "Last Resort" by Andrew Lipstein.)
One never knows when one might be forced into retirement. But I think I know what I want to do if/when I retire: read books, listen to music and podcasts, and, especially, write software for my own amusement, with no deadlines.
(Just finished reading: "Independence Day: What I Learned About Retirement from Some Who’ve Done It and Some Who Never Will" by Steve López.)
The feeling -- the familiar feeling -- I've gotten from reading "The Poet's House" by Jean Thompson is the sense of not belonging.
I am a sucker for time-traveling stories, which was probably why I picked up "The Rearranged Life of Oona Lockhart" by Margarita Montimore. (Good reviews of the book helped, too.)
And I am very satisfied with the ending the author chose. (I would have picked a wrong ending, involving revenge and tying up loose ends and whatnots.)
By the way, this book has been sitting on my wish list for a very long time, just because I didn't realize it has a different title in UK vs US.
