Ja Woltin ja Foodoran käyttämään pakkoyrittäjyysmalliin, joka mahdollistaa hyväksikäytön.

Yesterday Funland's biggest daily published an article showing how companies some food couriers are doubly exploited by account renting.

The problem is two-fold:
1) Wolt and Foodora deny couriers employment status making account renting oossible
2) Finland's hard immigration policies creating situation where people need to work in exploitative conditions

#Wolt couriers in Jyväskylä are striking, because the company unilaterally changed its contract with the couriers, without informing what the pay will be.

Wolt can do this, because it keeps its couriers "independent contractors", thereby circumventing all employer responsibilities.

In 2018, #couriers began the #Justice4Couriers campaign to resist the precarious and dangerous working conditions.

Here is a piece I wrote some years back on how in the #GigEconomy #labor relations are made "technical" through #automatization and making them part of the #algorithms

This "making technical" obfuscates and masks the very real relations of power at the workplace.

Relations that affect what workers, in this case #couriers, do and how much they are paid, are made features of the software, making it harder for the worker to question them.

I found the birdsite most useful when I was active in the #Justice4Couriers campaign (on work conditions of food couriers).

It was good for creating connections and debate, but for #organizing actual analog interaction was important.

As was good footwork: we pasted a lot of posters over the city and at least caught the attention of one MEP.

So as the text notes, digital tools can be useful, but there's more to organizing.
