Not a fan of organizations using K-12 as a stalking horse to advance their pet issues ("School ransomware attacks prompt calls to restore internet accountability" thecentersquare.com/michigan/s), esp when their solutions won't help schools. But - seriously WTAF - who are these people?!? cc/ @evangreer

US GAO weighs in again on their review of federal K-12 cybersecurity support: "As Cyberattacks Increase on K-12 Schools, Here Is What’s Being Done" gao.gov/blog/cyberattacks-incr

Among other things they find that CISA and ED - the agencies tasked with assisting - have little-to-no interaction with the K-12 community itself regarding cyberattacks (or FWIW other federal partners). I am hopeful that CISA leadership is ready to step up, but have been deeply discouraged by my dialogue with ED. More pressure needs to be brought to bear on their leadership to kickstart meaningful efforts to help schools with cybersecurity risk.

That's sure a take, arguing that K-12 schools remain ransomware targets because the US doesn't encourage/allow hacking back... marketplace.org/2022/11/22/why Perhaps this is merely what made it past NPR's editors to create the soundbite for radio.

Seeing class action lawsuits being brought against school districts for negligence leading to data breach. IANAL so can't comment on odds of lawsuit advancing, but I have very mixed feelings about where this tactic might lead (beyond some lawyers making $). OTOH, I suppose it may serve to elevate the cybersecurity issue to the Superintendent and CFO.
