Kagarlitsky is a worldwide renown sociologist and peace activist. He was accused and imprisoned already in the times of the Soviet Union as well as in Russia in the time of Yeltsin's presidency. Kagarlitsky has played a central role in peoples movements internationally, including as a speaker at European Nuclear Disarmament meetings already during the Soviet era. In recent years he also participated at international "No to #NATO" meetings and at meetings for global justice. Through his work Kagarlitsky has contributed to nuclear disarmament and agreements of importance for world peace.

After hearing the news that a Russian court sent sociologist and political scientist Boris Kagarlitsky was to pretrial jail for trumped-up “justifying terrorism” charges this week, I thought about how much I have learned from Kagarlitsky’s works over the years.

I cited #kagarlitsky six times in my PhD thesis in a chapter on the environmental movement in Russia. One example:
