In a dense Sequoia forest where the darkness is broken by only a single solarbeam, a curiously inspects a , seeing a face not unlike its own staring back from the strange insect's transparent wings.

Although kalligrammatids superficially look like butterflies, these insects are in fact ! This means their wings, which in Kalligramma brachyrhyncha's case seem to have mimicked a maniraptoran face, were transparent!

!
In this case it's brachyrhyncha visiting the ovulate cone of villosa.
Also, the toothy-grin wasn't my idea - this seems to be the pattern indicated by the fossil.

Hey all,
I finished my nectar-feeding diversity diagram! It was very interesting to do and the diversity of their wing and body shapes is incredible!!! It was also interesting to see the diversity of eyespots present.

Another . This time one of the largest species, Makarkinia irmae, from the Crato Formation of Brazil. Only a fragment of hindwing is know from this species, but indicates an insect with a massive wingspan, potentially up to 30cm across (although I've been more conservative here)!

Monday morning illustration.... this is only the unfinished outline, but I like the way it's looking so far.
This is illecebrosa, a species with a roughly 12cm wingspan and eyespotted wings from the Formaton of China.
The kalligrammatids were a family of butterfly-like lacewings from the which are thought to have been some of the primary pollinators of some .
