The #Kalpa Desktop is perfectly usable, don't let the Alpha status scare you.
From a desktop perspective, it's extremely similar to using #Tumbleweed, warts and all. It isn't going to corrupt your Hard Drive, make hair grow on your palms, or bring peace without honor.
It's got some rough edges, yes. This is how developing things goes, we get better over time. I know the Alpha status scares a lot of potential users off. But it will move to Beta when it's ready to move to Beta.
So where is Kalpa right now?
Kalpa remains in a stable, Alpha state, as it has for the past few months.
Things are being worked on, but the project will be in a bit of a holding pattern for at least the short term, as our counterparts on openSUSE #Aeon develop some of *their* new build processes and installation tools/methods. Aeon currently has a larger pool of regular contributors, but we work from the same #microOS base, sometimes that does mean that #Kalpa is going to move a bit slower
Greetings Geekos
There has been a fair bit of rumblings around various places on the internet, regarding the status of openSUSE Kalpa. This would be the place to find that information. At present, if you happen to read "somewhere" something about Kalpa, Please check it here. This is currently the only "Official" source of news, other than https://kalpadesktop.org
@paulfoerster @karlggestd Huh, I never read that description. Anyway I would say this is not true anymore anyway. It is rock stable (at least for me, YMMV as usual).
Give it a try. Or try out the #opensuse #MicroOS desktop variants (#Aeon GNOME of #Kalpa KDE). Although those are still in development and might be a little more rough than #tumbleweed

@jon @Vivaldi #Flatpak is the future. @opensuse with their #MicroOS, #Aeon, and #Kalpa, #SUSE proper with their #ALP, and @fedora with their #Silverblue are making that clear. Plus, If you make a Flatpak, you package your software once, and it's distribution agnostic.
Edit: can't forget the added security from the sandboxing when properly done.

@ulfi @opensuse Dual booting between #Tumbleweed and #Kalpa. For now #Tumbleweed is my daily driver, hopefully Kalpa can be the one soon 😀

The #Kalpa doc needs editing with a Find/Replace command. It seems that the Aeon doc might have been written first, then used a a template for the Kalpa one, but atm the latter still widely uses "Aeon" where it should say "Kalpa", internally.
