In today’s #Tokusatsu developments: #KamenRiderBlack (1987) #BluRay was released in the U.S. today.

My copy arrived, and the quality looks good - considering the age of the source material.

I’m less than thrilled that you have to watch a 3-minute anime music video before you can get to the main disc menu, though.

You know what? I LOVE Kamen Rider Black Sun. Isn't perfect and doesn't need to be it. Is its own story with enough references and links to the original Kamen Rider Black to be interesting to the fans.

Is a dark, sad story. With, i would say, a bit of hope at the end. I think that's the thing about Kamen Rider Black Sun: Sadness, evil that men do and hope.

As someone with only minimal exposure to the series before and albeit only three episodes in, so far I can only echo others' thoughts that #KamenRiderBlackSun is a perfect introduction. Yes the action is top notch but the themes, story and acting (Nishijima Hidetoshi!) are great, too.

It bares little resemblance to 1987’s Kamen Rider Black, even though it is a re-imagining of it - nor is it targeted at the same demographic audience. It’s darker, bloodier, confusing, and aimed at older audiences. It also certainly wants to have something to say about prejudice and, perhaps, revolution.
