When I was a kid, Mr. Rogers came to my hometown on a national tour.
After the performance, he met with us kids one on one.
Hundreds of kids.
He asked me "How are things in your world?"
And then he fucking listened to me.
He listened.
That kindness I will never forget, and I rue the fact that it is largely absent today.

The #Brahmaviharas: #Metta (friendliness), #Karuna (compassion), #Mudita (sharing in another's joy) and #Upecca (equanimity towards people) are about changing the frame through which we view other people.

It's quite a shift from our ingrained habits of fight, flight or fu*k and it takes continuous practice to shift the frame.

That's what I am working on at the moment...

@zerotonin @WhenIsayJ I would also see awareness of the critic as a practice of #metta and #karuna, friendliness and compassion towards oneself (and towards the “critic”). But you’re right that we don’t want to reify the critic as something inherently real, definitely not.
