The hiatus is over, I’ve posted to my blog again!

After setting up #Homebridge multiple times due to power loss related OS corruption, I decided this time would be the time I would document the process. I also switched #LePotato over to #Raspbian in the hopes that it will handle the semi-frequent power outages more gracefully.

So here’s my guide to setting up Homebridge on Raspbian and getting your first plugin (a #Kasa plugin) installed and configured!

I'm highly impressed with Homebridge. In about an hour, I was able to get it installed on my Le Potato, add all of my non-HomeKit Kasa and Vivint devices to the Apple Home app, and get some automations set up.

Might be worth a quick blog post, but it was honestly so easy that I'm not sure there's much to say!

I guess let's see how I feel after using it for a few days...

It's Christmas time, the one time of the year I play around with home automation. This year, Kasa seems to have destroyed their integration with Siri Shortcuts, so I worked my way around it with the help of IFTT.

Right now I'm using #NodeRed as my own API for my personal website (handling contact forms, sending confirmation emails, etc.). I also use pair it with #Airtable to store a lot of my data (looking into self-hosting #BaseRow though)
In #HomeAssistant I've just been exploring how I can get everything integrated into it and talking to each other. I'm using #Sonoff switches and sensors mainly to start my triggers, I also use #Kasa switches for most of my lights too which has been clutch

Just finished replacing a GE #zwave Smart Switch (that died) and Aqara motion sensor (which I’ll repurpose) with a #Kasa combo Wi-Fi switch / motion sensor (KS200M).
Unfortunately, while the Kasa switch is available in #homeassistant, the motion sensor is not. Since this is for a walk-in closet, it’s fine for my purpose.
