Un #mémoire en #BD impressionnant qui raconte les différents emplois que #KateBeaton à tenue dans des camps de sables bitumineux dans l'espoir de pouvoir rembourser la dette de son prêt étudiant. Pour avoir connu l'autrice à travers son blog et ses comics humoristiques, on est très loin de cette esthétique, le mémoire est grave, aborde des sujets troublants et parle de la faible place des femmes dans ces industries.

Tonight’s [xx] minutes: decided that watching Barry Lyndon would keep me up too late, so I’d read a few pages of #ducks by #katebeaton. Had to stop reading because my eyes were giving out. Still getting to bed late and all I want to do is go back in time and give 22 year old Kate Beaton a cup of tea and a warm blanket.

The labor conversations going on right now remind me that I need to rec Ducks by #KateBeaton, which I read in one sitting last week and is probably my favorite book of 2022.

It's an incredibly gripping graphic memoir about the author's experiences working in the Canadian oil sands to pay off her history degree. It felt like a uniquely Millennial labor memoir to me, w/ themes of rural displacement, sexual assault, climate disaster, & the toll on First Nations. #comics #bookstodon
