I'm looking for the best way for a non-computer-expert to declutter / slim-down / speed up a Gateway GWTC116-2BL (whose only purpose in life will be to surf the internet & use for ham radio in the field) without accidentally deleting anything that needs to be kept onboard. Any suggestions that will lead me in the right direction are welcome and greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! #KE0FFT
Parked in the truck in Terre Haute, Indiana listening to hams discussing the severe weather in the area on the W0THI (444.6 MHz) & NC9U (145.350MHz) repeaters. #TruckerHam #KE0FFT #KE0FFTwx
A fun, inexpensive find on eBay last week. I was stationed at Fort Devens, MA for Morse code school in 1992. I spotted this hand drawn QSL card, postmarked 1950, on eBay. On it, “Norm” (callsign W1RJI) sketched semaphore signaling flags - still used as part of the insignia of the US Army Signal Corps - which ran the CW school. Also, a coin from the 145th Signal Ball at Ft. Gordon, GA (where I was off & on between 1998-2005) which also features those flags. #KE0FFTqslcard #QSLcard #KE0FFT

My sister made that hat for me. It’s my “lucky outdoor QRP / QSO hat.” It hasn’t failed me yet. #KE0FFT #KE0FFTcw #KE0FFTqrp
Memories: “On Sunday I was out playing radio for Winter Field Day. Learned a few things about setting up gear & what I need to bring next time & what I don’t. Also made my mandatory one Morse Code contact (actually another guy using low power in another Illinois state park about 150mi away). I did get through to a guy in Georgia who was able to come back with my callsign, but we weren’t able to confirm the contact due to atmos. Not bad for 5 watts and a wire!” ~ Feb 2nd, 2022 #KE0FFT #KE0FFTcw
~ Reblogging to fix typos… #WINTERHEAT2023 officially ended tonight. With only the HT and my schedule, I wasn’t able to even imagine being competitive, but it was a lot of fun to try to get QSO’s around the region over the last month. Thanks to all who participated and worked to make it the fun event that it has been! #KE0FFT #TruckerHam

Any future signal “spots” from me that are not DX or otherwise unusual or exceptional will be posted with the hashtag #SignalSpots - I won’t tag larger groups - i.e. 10m 10meters HamRadio AmateurRadio as a rule unless I think a particular spot deserves a larger audience. So if you want all of my spots - follow the SignalSpots hashtag. #KE0FFT
W6EK calling CQ Winter Field Day on 28.364MHz USB phone - signal fading in and out in Olney, IL at 1028CST / 1628UTC #SignalSpots #KE0FFT
Purchased a new Gateway notebook - exclusively for use with ham radio last week. Used it for the first time today in the shack; was hoping to hunt & log a POTA or two, but alas, the couple of CQ’s I heard were dealing with pileups & my radio-time was limited. Fun enough just to hang the antenna from a tree & spin the dial though. I did hear a SOTA station calling, which I haven’t heard in quite a while. #KE0FFT #KE0FFThingsInMyShack
I've transferred over to mastodon.hams.social - only because some things I'll be posting about - mostly signal spots & QSO's - are most likely to be relevant to folks on the US side of the pond. The mastodon.radio server provided my first experience w/ Mastodon & has been fantastic! Please bear with me as I "re-follow" the folks I was following over there, & while I figure whatever else I need to do to make the transfer complete. Thanks for your role in making social media fun again! #KE0FFT
