209 followers · 636 posts · Server hachyderm.ioOkay, stupid #dhcp question. Given a home network (in 10/8 space) using #Kea for DHCP (v4), is there any advantage to using Kea's HA support vs simply having 2 independent DHCP servers with non-overlapping pools?
Kea provides a "home HA" config example (https://kea.readthedocs.io/en/kea-2.0.1/arm/config-templates.html), but I can't see a clear benefit *unless* you're trying to conserve IP space, which I'm not. I'll need to manage config syncing in either case, and I don't see what HA actually buys me except complexity.

To quote NZBirdsOnline, "Bounty hunting of kea as a measure to protect sheep was outlawed in 1971, and full protection was finally granted in 1986." "That the kea persists despite the shooting of 150,000 birds between 1860 and 1970 indicates a high reproductive potential." The deck is still stacked against them. Predatory mammals move up mountain as the world warms, but at least we're not shooting them now.

Kea... I photographed these ten years ago in New Zealand when we walked up the Rob Roy Glacier track to see the ice. The Keas were a bonus and hugely entertaining. There are three different birds in these pictures; you can tell by the rings.
