Tfw a story you've been trying to place for what feels like forever bounces yet again, & you're all like, "Ugh, maybe just retire this thing & put it out of its misery," but then you actually open up the rejection email & read it, & the editor says some very nice things about the piece, & the hope of the story being worth a damn is rekindled.

I appreciate the reasoning behind NOT potential. I too initially thought potential would be better but you’re quite right that it’s not.
And there’s that damn conveyor belt again - I have to constantly practice walking against the default. Bugs me that it’s so easy not to.

Whatever your new year resolutions are, don't go overboard. Set realistic goals you can achieve (repeatedly). It's no problem if you overachieve and it's no problem if you don't reach your goals. Just keep going. If you are about to quit, remember why you started. There are no setbacks. Only Progress.
