As the user reported the DM to us (diolch 👍🏻) we were able to suspend the spam account

The spammer also managed to approach one of our mods via DM which was a quite an amusing choice of target 😂

If you get DMs like this - or anything that makes you feel uncomfortable, please report it

Unfortunately you can’t attach a DM to a report - so if you want to provide evidence, take a screenshot & DM it to @teamtoot so our mods can see it. All reports will be in complete confidence

Yesterday we had two new accounts set up.

They displayed some suspicious characteristics when created - but it wasn’t anything serious so we decided to keep an eye on them and see what happened.

Later that day one of our users reported that one of the new accounts had been sending Direct Messages (DMs) offering *certain types of services*.

It had the fingerprints of the beginnings of a Sextortion (https://inews.co.uk/inews-lifestyle/reports-sextortion-soaring-uk-how-to-stay-safe-1704431) scam.
