A song from your preteen years

Okay, this song has a bit of story. It's a punk-ish band from the GDR. Punk was a thing, even then, but actually it also wasn't. It's hard to explain. It is also a time in East Germany when bands have to get lyrics approved by censors. And this tune is a masterpiece of hidden codes. There are SO many, I'd spent half a day explaining them. Mostly, it's "Fernweh" made into song (Fernweh is the modern word for"wanderlust"; no one says that here).

It's the only pop tune I ever heard my mom sing. It might be the only pop song my stepfather ever tolerated, and that man legit hates music or the joy it brings.

The tune had an odd renaissance in the early 00s because East German teens had a fit of two years when they rediscovered those songs. This tune was everywhere but in West Germany because...go figure...

It is the only piece of music my mum and I bond over.
