let's talk Yinepu.
Yinepu, also known as Anpu or Anubis, is a god of the dead and embalming. He is a psychopomp. He leads the dead to the afterlife. Yinepu is most often depicted as a jackal headed man or a jackal. He is one of the most well known and popular deities within the kemetic pantheon. Everyone has atleast heard of Anubis, if not heard his other names.
Yinepu is regionally either a child of Wesir or Set. Nebthet is his mother but in some cases it is Aset who raises him. He also is part of the aspected diety Yinepu-Wepwawet/Wepwawet-Yinepu. Wepwawet is another jackal headed diety who is known to be a warrior and a psychopomp. They are two sides of the same coin.
Yinepu has been in my life for quite some times. He taught me about the spirits and introduced me to his mother Nebthet to learn much more. He is not the loudest of deities and works in a time scale that is so beyond human it can seem like forever before you hear from him again. He is very busy after all.

Let's talk Shezmu.
Shesmu is the deity over the wine press and butchery for the gods. It is Shezmu who prepares the meat for the gods to eat. I have read specifically he does this for Hethert, but is known to do this for the Netjeru in general. He is also a deity of wine and the winepress. It is a strange mix being associated with wine and blood or butchery. Until you find out that one of the symbols of the heart in AE were a bunch of grapes. So when Shezmu is pressing grapes he is symbolically pressing hearts to draw out the blood. Which is then made into a nice vintage.
Shezmu was considered a deity of neutral temperament. Sometimes vicious, sometimes calm, sometimes helpful. He could be depicted as a man carrying wine jars or as a lion headed man. He is associated with Ma'ahes and Nefertem, sometimes being equated to or replaced by one or the other.
In my practice I honor these three as brothers and include Yinepu and Ihy as children of Sekhmet/the Eye. But that is just me.

My partner sent me this, and hopefully some Jewish kabbalists and folks of Kemetic faith can help me out - the placements seems mostly ok, but wouldn't Heka be, like, a significantly better choice for the placement of Kether?

I am, in fact, sitting in front of my opened CSP file for Page 5 to get this segment done already.
In the meantime, i'll share a second picture i did yesterday that came to my mind for "Djehuti-The last instruction"
I was listening to some epic music and it felt right to do another one with Djehuti in it and not work on my other projects. I sometimes need this art for my heart.

Warm up sketch that might get into the novel Project Djehuti-Die letzte Formel (The last formular). At days that i feel spiritual, i sometimes think that my way to communication with my most beloved deity is through art and writing. I feel that this is the best way to honor him. Fill the world with good things, with writing and stories for the people to enjoy and maybe learn from sometimes.
I feel happy and content with that thought in mind.

Let's talk Taweret.
Taweret may look familiar to you. She is the hippo headed goddess associated with the protection of women and children. Hippos are known to be fierce mothers, keeping threats away from their young. Even male hippos are this way. So hippos are connected to the protection of children in general.
Back to Taweret. Her most common depiction is that of a hippo with a wig, holding two tyet knots. Her mouth is open to show off her big teeth and express her ferocity. She is often paired with Bes, another deity of protection for children, but her other consorts can include Sobek and Set. Set can take on a hippo form in his role as defender of children.
Taweret was a household deity, being worshipped outside of the temples more often than in the temples. She was called upon by the masses as protecting and caring for children as well as insuring healthy pregnancies were everyday population problems.
Today modern practitioners still call upon Taweret in times of need. For strength, health, and protection. For myself, I had both a Taweret and Heqat statue in my delivery room when I was induced and gave birth to my daughter. My Taweret statue continues to look after my daughter as it stays in her room. She whispers to it every night to look after her.

Deities have such an interesting connectivity. They give, take, nurture, harm, and more to each other. The Ancient Egyptian deities go a bit further and sometimes melt into each other, like colors in a paint palette. I find this aspect extremely intriguing and frustrating. How do you know exactly which manifestation you are connecting with? Does it really matter in the end? Are all Khnums of varying combinations still KHNUM proper? All valid questions to think on and figure out for oneself.
This image I am sharing was a commission for a kemetic practitioner. They experienced the vulture goddess Nekhbet very differently than others. They received her as Raet, the female Ra and the personification of the sun. The illustration features her three gods and how their relationships unfold. Ptah who cares for Amun-Ra. Nekhbet who brings life and rejuvenation to Amun-Ra. And Amun-Ra who is a bit detached and aloof in the sky. These are the very specific to them, manifestations of their deities. Which I think really highlights how personal and interconnective deities can be.

Happy Solstice!
Today marks the winter solstice for me. It is the time when the Wandering Goddess returns from her journey. It is a time for celebration, feasts, jokes, stories, and music. It is a homecoming, when family unites and the world starts to get a little brighter.
May your solstice be joyful and full of love!

Let's talk Serqet.
Serqet is the #Kemetic scorpion goddess that is associated with Aset (Isis). She is depicted as a woman with a vague scorpion on her head or as a scorpion. In ancient times she was called upon to heal stings and the like. She is sometimes the mother of Nehebkau who can also help with stings. She is a deity over the windpipe and how we breath. Possibly due to the ability of venom to effect our bodies.
Serqet was not as prolific as Aset (to my understanding. Though kind of because she is Aset.. squishy), but the scorpion was a major concern. And even today they are still causing issues (due to a recent flood in Egypt). Overall, we continue to see Serqet's influence in the world and can turn to her for major acts of healing.

Sekhmet-Nebtuu is an interesting mix I have gotten to know over the years. The squish is very healing and very growth oriented but also.. a Star Lion.
"Did you say a star lion, like there is more than one?"
YES.
The concept of cosmic lion (cow, cobra, jackal, hawk, bull...) is a very old, primordial concept of many deities. Many of the ancient Egyptian deities have a cosmic form or celestial connection. They are very big, nearly abstract forms that can be difficult to grasp in their entirety of both time and scope. Not only that, they can nearly squish into each other like a weird psychedelic Picasso painting.
The ancient Egyptian deities are very fluid. If they can sit, they can fit. What I mean by that is that if they can suit themselves into a situation, doing the job or task set before them, they will. It won't matter what labels or focuses we think about them, they are the liquid that fills any container. Sekhmet helps you study for exams? no problem! Set helps with your child care responsibilities? Great, he loves kids (they are lil' balls of chaos after all)! There is no pigeon holing deities. Especially since they'll just melt into something else and seep out the bottom of whatever box you try to put them in.
Well, this started out well and has spiraled into a strange end. None the less, its entertaining. And probably a sign of how exhausted, burnt out, and wound up I am. Oh well. The end is in sight for all this crazy. until then... :D

Let's talk Nebthet.
Nebthet (Nephthys) is a #kemetic deity who is one of many deities over death. She can be depicted as a woman with a house/temple symbol on her head, as a panther, as a cobra, and more. She is the twin sister of Aset (Isis) and aids her sister in the collection and establishment of Wesir (Osiris) in his mythos. Nebthet is often the mother of Yinepu (Anubis) with his father being either Set or Wesir. In one variant, Nebthet abandons the baby Yinepu and Aset finds him, having followed a pack of wild dogs who led her to him. Aset takes the baby in and raises him.
Nebthet is also an Eye goddess and take on forms of protection. Is considered a protector of the dead and connects with them. Her most fearsome animal theophany is the panther (leopard) which were thought to be more vicious than a lion.

This time of year is the time of Anhur.
There is a myth of the Wandering Goddess which Anhur plays a large part of. The myth goes that Ra and the goddess get into a disagreement. And she storms off. She ends up running south into Nubia and Ra is forlorn. The world becomes dark and Ra must have the goddess return. So he calls on Djehuty and Anhur to find her. The pair go south and end up finding the goddess in Nubia in the shape of a wild cat. She is wild and fierce. The two must win her over with jokes, stories, and promises of feasts to come. They lure her back with these things, escorting her home day after day and night after night. By the time she reaches Ra again, the goddess is herself and returns pacified. Anhur becomes her consort, continuing their chase and find every year.
Anhur is a war god who can be depicted as a lion or man. He wears the four feathers headdress that represents the four winds. He is a form of Shu and the Wandering Goddess is often a form of Tefnut. The myth relates about the solar cycles and the solstices.
This myth is one of my favorites and is the one that plays the biggest part in my shrines.

Let's go Montu!
Montu is a hawk-headed or bull-headed #kemetic god of war. He is often the son of Amun-Ra and Mut. His cult centers were in close proximity to Thebes, and so his influence mixed with theirs a bit. He can be synched with Ra as Montu-Ra. As Montu-Ra he takes a consort, Raettawy, who is the female Ra (ra-et) over the Two Lands (tawy). Raettawy can be one of a collection of goddesses (similar to the Eye Goddess), but she is often a form of Hethert. To complete the triad they have a son Harpre who is a solar for of Heru (Horus)but is sometimes thought of as a form of child Djehuty. Montu's other consort are Tjenenet and Iunyt.
Montu has many connections to battle but he also connects to kingship and the heavens. He has associations with Ra, Heru, Shai, Wesir, and Atum. He is a powerful deity that can help in battle in whatever form that takes.

Heru-sa-Asetis commonly known as Horus the Younger. He is the child of Aset (Isis) and Wesir (Osiris), though sometimes it is Min who is his father. Heru-sa-Aset is a kingly deity who contends with Set over the throne of Egypt.
Heru is depicted mostly as either a child or as a hawk headed man. He is fair and victorious in all that he does. But his myth begins when he is a sickly child. He is born vulnerable and is hidden away in the marshes by his mother. He is constantly under the threat of death either by his uncle or the stinging of scorpions, or eaten by animals. It is through the generosity of other deities that Heru makes it into adulthood. He then takes on the role of avenger of his father and defeats Set. Heru-sa-Aset becomes the king and rules. His myth is one of survival and vulnerability. He did not choose what he came into but he did resolve it. That is the strength of Heru-sa-Aset.

Welcome Wepwawet!
Wepwawet is a jackal headed #Kemetic deity. He is the ‘Opener of the Way’ and aspected with Yinepu (Anubis). Wepwawet is often depicted with a shield, bow, or khopesh denoting his warrior roles. He can sometimes wear the double crown, connecting him to kingship, or other hats. One aspect is his role in pregnancy-labor, where he ‘opens the way’ for babies to be born. In this role he wears the cow uterus headdress.
