Hubby and I also went to Kelly Lake, which is one of about a gazillion lakes in the Kenai Wildlife Refuge. We walked part of Seven Mile Trail. One can reserve a public-use cabin for free in various parts of the refuge, and all over Alaska. The wildflowers and scenery/views always take my breath away.

Wildfires are pretty notorious in Alaska because so much can be damaged in a small amount of time. In 2019, there was a massive wildfire near where I live on the Kenai Peninsula, Swan Lake Fire, that was caused by lightning and destroyed 167,000 acres including much of the Skilak Lake Road area inside of the Kenai Wildlife Refuge. Hubby and I went out there today and walked around a good bit. It's stunning to me how much beauty can be found in utter destruction. Here are some photos I took today and will share more in another post...
