DHS claimed that following a data breach in Dec 2020, #ChadWolf & #KenCuccinnelli were given temporary phones & instructed to use Signal to communicate in December 2020 and January 2021. #DHS claims the agency retained the #Signal messages, but given that 1 of its selling points is the “disappearing messages” feature, the accuracy of this claim may be questionable.

New #DHS filing says missing #ChadWolf and #KenCuccinnelli texts from #January 6th could be due to use of the encrypted messaging app #Signal app and conducting government business on a personal phone, according to declarations made by federal officials in a case brought by CREW (Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington).

DHS lists no efforts made to recover the messages.
