#Shobukan #InyoRyu #Battojutsu / #Kenjutsu explores two similar #guardStances in #martialArts: Chûdan no kamae and Seigan no kamae. #Chudan is a #defensive position, effective when stationary, while #Seigan is safer for moving around. Both positions are beginner-friendly and provide a sense of safety, but their extended blades limit offensive capabilities and can make practitioners vulnerable to binds and displacements. Most #kenjutsuka use Chûdan while standing still and Seigan while moving.

I attended my first #kenjutsu class today. My only experience with martial arts was Kung Fu during my teen years (more than ten years ago) so I didn't say anything but the teacher saw it right away. The footwork is still there.

It felt great and I'll continue training. I came home and immediately started crafting my wooden sword. I am allowed to use my left hand as the dominant hand even though apparently that's heresy but I'm glad.

I gave into temptation & got another sword as a late #ChristmasGift to myself. I’m completing my daisho (paired swords worn by samurai circa 1100-1800 BCE and by weebs thereafter), which was missing the complementary wakizashi (short sword).

Hoping to do some tameshigiri (test cutting) soon! Feels like a cathartic way to ring in the New Year! #katana #swords #collector #kenjutsu #iaido

This #kenjutsu #technique first #parries the #opponent's #sword with one's own #blade held vertical. Then the #swordsman steps forward under the blades, suddenly turning the sword to present the blade's flank, causing the opponent's sword to slide upward.
After a quick horizontal cut to the opponent's arm, we withdraw with a circular step and bat the opponent's blade aside.
