I’ve been gardening lately, trying to turn the little lawn in my backyard into a California native plant sanctuary. I think of Kenneth Koch’s poem, “One Train May Hide Another” when I’m fixing a problem of some kind, and only when I fix the first problem, do I discover the problem behind it. Usually, that’s when I’m fixing problems at work. Gardening is also like that.
