I ordered #ThreeRocks The story of Ernie Bushmiller, the man who created Nancy this week. It's by Bill Griffith, ("Zippy The Pinhead") who has chops, it's good. Griffith's eye for the body of work is the meat. I thought I might find out more about his own underground comics background-- not so much. Bushmiller had a HAW HAW THEY'RE HIPPIES reactionary phase, Griffith illuminates it, but doesn't go for the throat with the zeal #Backderf does, in #KentState .

🎧 May 4th was the 53rd anniversary of the murder in cold blood of 4 student protestors at #KentState by 28 members of the #Ohio #NationalGuard. They fired 67 rounds in 13 seconds. Nine more were injured—one paralyzed—for protesting #Nixon's announcement the US had invaded Cambodia.

To a person who was shot, then lived his life fighting for justice, Alan Michael Canfora. I was lucky enough to speak to him about everything. He died in December 2020. He found the proof of the order to fire.

May 4, 1970 - Ohio National Guard troops opened fire on anti-war protesters at Kent State University, killing four students and wounding nine others, one permanently disabled.
The previous day, President Nixon had announced a widening of the Vietnam War with bombing in neighboring Cambodia.
There were major campus protests around the country with students occupying university buildings to organize and to discuss the war and other issues.

#OTD in 1970, #KentState students Jeffery Glenn Miller (20), Allison B. Krause (19), William Knox Schroeder (19) and Sandra Lee Schener (20) were killed by the Ohio National Guard.

I know for some folks May 4 is "Star Wars Day" and it's great fun and Star Wars quotations and pictures and memes.

And I absolutely support that, but for me May 4 is always the day when the Ohio National Guard murdered students at Kent State University.

I know the younglings think of May the Fourth as a fun Star Wars thing but to me it’s still an infamous date - May 4 1970 - when the Ohio National Guard decided that American college students at Kent State University, exercising their 1st Amendment rights (or even just walking across campus), were enemies worthy of shooting and killing
