Had a good time at the Chelsea (Michigan) ham radio swap. Met some regulars on my 2 meter morning net on the #N8DUY repeater who I had not previously seen in person, and picked up a #Kenwood #TK790 from Thom @w8tam which he has already fixed up for ham radio use.

The Chelsea swap was also a "Vintage Electronics Expo", so there was also a lot of 1960s-1990s gear of various sorts there.

Next swap: Monroe (MI) Hamfest and Computer Show, on Fathers Day 2023-06-18.

I use my old #Kenwood #TM201A for my #APRS digipeater, but was just thinking it would be cool to switch the frequency from 144.39 (North America APRS) to 145.825 (ISS APRS) when the ISS was near the horizon.

Of course, I don't want to do this manually!

Was down a rabbit hole to figure out how the "remote jack" control port worked, but just realized that I can use the "up" and "down" buttons on the MIC connector--I am already running audio/PTT through it.

Disappointed that #Kenwood appears to have potentially exited the #HamRadio market. I'm looking for a Digital-capable HT with GPS. Would have liked a Tri-bander (2m/1.25m/70cm), but a Dual-Band (2m/70cm) would be acceptable.

The #Icom ID-52A looks interesting, but curious what else is on the market.

Ok, I’m trying to find a V+U handheld that does FM voice, #APRS tracking+msg and AM #airband receive. I don’t care about any digital voice mode. What is the cheapest choice?
Bonus points if does cross-band duplex, but I guess only #kenwood HTs support it? (and they sadly disappeared from the market…)

Nur der FI Schalter verhinderte eventuelle schwere Verletzungen. Der Mutterkonzern, De longhi, wirbt mit dem Slogan „Made for living“. Kannste dir nicht ausdenken, sowas.🙄

Just replaced the broken antenna connector on my #kenwood #thD72A #ht radio. Super easy repair, took me 15 minutes, after figuring out to take it apart a month ago and ordering the part.

Should I blog about this? Yes, probably. I couldn't find any information about this repair online.

Vandaag wat zitten prutsen met nieuwe oude stereotoren, en ook om te kijken oud cassettebandje erin gestopt. Wist niet dat bandje zo kon klinken, in mijn herinnering klonk het bagger. Als ik vroeger betere toren had, had mogelijk wel ook wat nieuwe bandjes gekocht in plaats van alleen cd. Maar leuk om weer eens mee te prutsen. En te zien dat kwaliteit toch beter was dan dat we nu denken.

Bioenno LiFePO4 battery arrived today. Hooked it up to my #Kenwood #TM261A (late 1990s, 50/10/5W 2m mono band rig). The simple tests worked.

First real test is the weekday 800a #N8DUY net, and then Friday evening there's a Wayne County repeater crawl (map at https://tinyurl.com/WCRCMAP ) coordinated by Keith #KD8ZSK

I am fine at 5 or 10 watts into the antennas I have, but I really don't want to run full power without putting something on a meter to check it out first.

New battery on order (#Bioenno #lifepo4 with a matching charge controller). This should unlock the ability to use one more radio, a 50W/10W/5W old Kenwood TM-261A 2m mobile rig (late 1990s vintage). It wants max 11A amps on tx, more than my existing power supplies can handle.

I'll put this purchase in the "emergency preparedness" bucket, so that I have a stronger battery power source for #SKYWARN activations. I do still need to work on the 2 meter outdoor antenna to match.

Almost a year at my new house, and I'm just about starting to sort out radios.
What I would like to know is who at Kenwood decided to give the TM-D710G a 4m cable between the radio body and the head, but have the mic plugged into the radio body 🤦🏻

Here is the finished Kenwood KX-W8020 cassette deck. Lubricated solenoids and motors, adjusted speed and azimuth. Thankfully the belts are still fine 🙂
