Another #Earth.
On July 23, 2015, the #KeplerSpaceTelescope has confirmed the first near-Earth-size planet in the “habitable zone” around a #Sun-like #Star, called #Kepler452b. This discovery and the introduction of 11 other small habitable zone candidate planets marked a milestone of searching for habitable #Exoplanets.

#Kepler’s extended mission, #K2, focused on low-mass #Stars and has led to the discovery of hundreds of small #Planets, some even in the habitable zone of their stars. Together, Kepler and the K2 mission have found over 3,000 new #Exoplanets.

The #Kepler mission was launched in 2009 specifically to search for these kinds of planets: #Earth-sized planets in Earth-like orbits around #Sun-like stars in order to study how common they are in the #Universe. The mission has made many amazing discoveries, such as an #Exoplanet with the density of Earth, a #Planet in a…

#NASA considers this #Exoplanet and its #Star to be the closest analog to Earth and #Sun so far. Though it’s 60% larger than Earth in diameter, Kepler-452b is thought to be rocky and within the habitable zone of a G-type star similar to ours.
