I really enjoyed Empire of Light. I think when Kermode describes it as like 'being in a multiplex watching 5 films' I think that's right, and not a criticism. We are explicitly shown how many other screens are available. The cinema is the place that brings it all together. All different people come to it. Each with the stories that matter for them.
