This short was totally ripped off for Stanley's film Hardware. The film-makers were subsequently forced to admit this.

One of the finest, and unique, artists to grace the comic book medium is now gone.

Kevin O'Neill was a giant in the industry. No matter what he drew, from 2000AD to Batman (with the late Alan Grant) to his collaborations with Alan Moore (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) or Pat Mills, he approached it all the same. You hired Kev, you got Kev, and the world was better for it. Even if the Comics Code Authority objected to his style. Not the content, but his style.

Sometimes being unique comes with it's own problems. Did Kev change his style? Nope. Why would he?

Godspeed Kev, may you rest easy.

Kev's art was unmistakable, his support for recognition for Brit comics writers & artists was powerful.

He's instrumental in shaping early 2000 AD, which in turn gave so many creators their break (and it still does). When I was a kid I had no idea comics could look like that until Kev came along.
