Sunrise over Kilvey Hill, Swansea this morning. Taken with an old Olympuse E-510 camera that belonged to my sister in law Barbara before she passed away.

#KilveyHill, Swansea has a thousand year history of coal mining.Swansea was a coal town, even the Romans and Vikings would have burnt local coal. This mine on the Hill shut down in the1700s.It was on the Swansea 2ft Seam. The exposures can still be seen and the entrance to the tunnel is in the centre. The rocks show destructive effects of centuries of copper smoke and sulphuric acid. Famous geologist #WilliamLogan would have visited this site in the 1830s to map our Welsh coalfields.#KilveyHistory

The article on the early environmental history of #KilveyHill is here. I don't yet know much about the Council trying to gain adverse possession of the central road. The best I can do for now is to keep publicising the history and significance of the woodland landscape on the Hill.I met with Kilvey Woodland Vols last Friday. This article is also largely repeated in this year's Swansea History Journal:
Nigel A Robins. (2022). the early history of Kilvey Woods in Swansea. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.6866075
