One of my all-time favourite LMM short stories is 'Quarantine at Alexander Abrahams'.

It is sheer delight to read - either to yourself or out loud.

Re-reading it last night - for the first time in a while - I was struck by the insight it provides into how infectious diseases were handled in the past:

- police enforced lockdowns
- vaccination
- contact tracing

Sound familiar?!

So these are not new practices that suddenly were forced upon people for the very first time because of a virus known as COVID.

These are tried and tested public health measures that have alleviated human suffering for at least 200 years.
