#Glove80, a split #ContouredKeyboard with low-profile keys. Got it 5 months ago.

Previously, I used a #KinesisAdvantage for 14 years.

Are there any people I am connected to that are into #ergonomic split #keyboards? Specifically the #KinesisAdvantage or other contoured/concave designs.

I have never used a split KB, much less an extremely contoured device. I am basically having to relearn typing like I am a child again, and while I am very committed to sticking with this due to my wrist injury last year I am finding it very difficult to adapt.

Any pro-tips to make the intro easier?

After 6 weeks of using it exclusively both @ home and @ work, I can say that for me the typing experience is vastly superior. It just fits my fingers better!

One thing that makes this particularly obvious: on my #KinesisAdvantage, after 15 years of use I still frequently mistyped the ` and \ keys (bottom row for left hand pinky and ring finger). But after only a week of adapting to #Glove80, I no longer mistype those keys at all.

I have no need for homing keys myself, but they look well thought out to me. Probably superior to anything one can 3D print.

Oh, and regarding "take some getting used to": when I made the switch from flat non-split staggered to fixed-split ortholinear curved #KinesisAdvantage, it took me only about 2 weeks to get back to my previous speed. Hang in there!

Oh and if anyone wonders: switching from that to #Glove80 now was way easier.

Bilateral combinations are the best thing to happen to homerow mods. They reduce misfires to near-zero.

Technically it is getting better, but not by much, and look at how long it took!

#Maltron (non-split but contoured) is from the 1980s or so, and still being produced.

#KinesisAdvantage (non-split but contoured) debuted in the 1990s, I believe. Still being produced.

#KinesisAdvantage360 (split contoured) came out 2022.

#Glove80 (split contoured) is from 2023.

"Split" isn't the problem - there are dozens of those. It's that virtually nobody offers *contoured* (or "keywell") keyboards.

Maybe it's due to low demand?

Case in point: Even in my IT and software development crowd, nobody is interested enough to get one. And they know the #KinesisAdvantage I got 15 years ago. They don't have a need (no pain using flat keebs) and/or find the price too high (300+ USD).

1 guy who has heavy #RSI now ordered a #Glove80 though.

You know what's funny? When one looks for a split contoured #ErgonomicKeyboard, it's the other way round: there are exactly TWO commercially available models - #KinesisAdvantage360 and #Glove80.

Last month, I got the latter. Previously, I used a #KinesisAdvantage, one of TWO commercially available non-split countoured keyboards (the other being #Maltron).

My light RSI started after 5 years in the software industry and 15 years extensive hobbyist coding before that. So the data about this individual here confirms that you should be safe by now. 🤣

(Luckily the #KinesisAdvantage I bought back then cured that immediately and permanently.)

Getting used to my #Glove80, a #split #ErgonomicKeyboard. Really enjoying my #CustomLayout so far, especially having Shift, Ctrl, Alt & Win on *both* thumbs, unlike #KinesisAdvantage.

Next step to increase comfort is trying #tenting: raise the middle part so that my forearm bones are less twisted and more towards a natural handshake position. Starting with ~ 16 mm (pictured left), but this #keyboard could go way higher!

I've been using a #KinesisAdvantage keyboard for over 14 years now and would never wanna go back to a flat keyboard. Some of them may be slightly less unhealthy, but IMO anybody who types at work & wants to continue for decades absolutely needs a *split* and *contoured* keyboard.

Unfortunately, #Kinesis 360 has a ridiculously high price. So glad I got a #Glove80 instead!

It's what will replace my #KinesisAdvantage when it arrives. More compact. Also, as you can freely move all keycaps, you should be able to create a layout that works for you. And better ergonomics.

I'm a software developer myself and use countless hotkeys and custom macros. With Glove80 I expect to replace some of them with a custom keymap loaded directly into the firmware. Yay for portability!

After 13 years with #KinesisAdvantage, in 2021 I finally found a better #ErgonomicKeyboard called #Glove80: split, wireless, low-profile choc keys, uniform replacable keycaps, built-in tenting. I backed the Kickstarter campaign in January 2022 with over 700 others and waited patiently.

Last month, mass production started, and now my keyboard is on its way to me! 🎉

As of today, reservations for batch 2 are open; rough ETA: April 2023.
