A happy King Kamehameha Day.
I have mixed feelings about kings, and I recognize that there are people descended from those he conquered who do not celebrate this day. Still, to me it's a day to celebrate the nation that Hawaii was, and that did its best to resist the colonial nations that threatened to snap it up, and finally was snapped up. It's a good day to remember the past, unvarnished.
