(2023 Netflix, 16 1:20 eps)

On the surface, this is a fun, over-the-top, fairy-tale, trope-filled kDrama rom-com. The leads are wonderful, sweet & perfect (maybe too perfect), with great chemistry. The 2nd couples' relationships are also fun to watch. The product placement can be annoying because there is so much.

The scenery & sets are stunningly beautiful. There's a past trauma & family problems to overcome. I binged this one, not because of a compelling storyline, but because it was so cute.

Unfortunately, if you look a little deeper, I felt that the commentary on the big social problem was handled poorly. [See spoiler comment]

Hmmm. I like the drama. I liked the main leads. Not sure I liked the final 10-15 minutes.

Evil half sister attends wedding AND lets Won's mother hug the woman's son? Nope. I can't believe she let go of all of that resentment so quickly.

W's parents sit next to each other at the wedding and there is a subtle hint at W's father wanting to rekindle something with the mother? Ummm, what?

It could have just ended with the couple's final wedding glance into the camera. Instead I got a cheesy final minute of choosing a tux and a breaking of the 4th wall.

Feel a bit bummed about those 3 things.

and it's done 🥲 it was tropey, but I like the spin they took on the tropes.

Also the cinematography is just amazing.

Now that King The Land is done, it seems like I must find a new KDrama to replace it.

Watching Uncanny Counter S2, but I need another. Thoughts?

I have nothing to spoil but heading into the final 4 eps, I have a theory about Gu Won's mum.
He appears as a boy in a suit in his memories. This leads me to believe that she is dead and he has been helped to suppress the memory. BUT, there are no pictures and no memorial service is ever held etc so, I am thinking that his mother is in an institution somewhere. Thoughts?

Gu Won is finally doing more. Still not enough to end my anxiety over what his sister could do.

1. Sister will find out and immediately use it in a slander campaign to prevent Gu Won from inheriting King Group.

It will go one of two ways
1. He is dumb and leads to break up due to Sa Tang's reputation being absolutely destroyed.
2. He uses the competency of the trio and begins his own campaign to become the inheritor.

What campaign?
In Ep9 we heard a mention about a vision being highlighted for the next 100 years of King Group. Gu Won will make it his goal to make sure King Group is truly owned by its employees, the people who are King Group, not the managers.

Just enjoying how dumb the show is, but I do hope they show off more of Gu Won being more competent and less 'woo nepotism means I can reward people I know whilst disregarding everyone else who clearly exists'

one thing I'm really loving about #KingTheLand is that the hotboy chaebol wants to learn what his hotel concierge love interest does and _why_ she does it, and doesn't look down on any of her reasons. She _likes_ her job, and he wants to know why and he isn't too precious to do hard work to learn

idk if it's going to end the way I want (give it all up Gu Won, they don't deserve you, chop onions for Sa-Rang's grandma!) but I'm loving the big tension between his family and his love
