When I crested the ridge, the wind crashed into me, almost knocked off my glasses, and then ran off roaring, toward the Central Valley.
But I had my #HF radio with me. And parafoil #kite and reel. So I ran it up the kite, found some smooth air, hooked up the antenna.

@rombo First #kite design for lifting was a fail -- too complex, too heavy, wrong material. Second kite design followed the Colin Chapman Lotus approach - make it as simple as possible, then add lightness. Current design is shown below but unfinished because reasons.

Major personal project at the moment is a packet radio system to control a #kite from the ground. First functionality will be to remotely trigger a release to drop a parachuting Teddy Bear. It's built around Arduino nanos and Adafruit radio breakout modules. Stuck right now getting a servo to place nice with serial trigger inputs 😠. But hey, I'm learning a lot about Arduino UART functions.

I made a second cyanotype of a cloudy sky printed with my Lino block with several different kites and wind socks. Then I printed my block on various beautiful patterned and coloured Japanese washi papers, and collaged them on my image. I did a little embellishment with Posca pen.
The koï-shaped wind socks are traditionally flown in Japan on Children’s Day, May 5.
