Cool book scored from Half Price Books. The full title is 25 #Kites That Fly by Leslie Hunt. It's 1971 Dover edition of a book first published in 1929.

In the second image it's open to my favorite page; favorite because it harkens back to a more innocent era and suggests the potential for making things go boom.

I found this on eBay for less than my impulse buy threshold. I already have the updated edition titled simply #Kites but what the heck. Impulse has its own reasons.

The gates opened and thousands of high European Honey Buzzards had no time to wait + 589 Booted #Eagles (pic), 256 Short-toed #Eagles, 278 Black #Kites, 114 Egyptian #Vultures, 112 Black and 284 White #Storks making the #14km crossing in front of our guests!

#HappyKiteDay from Saturday at the Washington State International Kite Festival. Today we had the Parade of Colors (banners), the Cody Fly (Cody war kites), and the Flat and Bowed Kites Mass Ascension, as well as numerous sport flier ballet in both 2 and 4 line kites and pairs or teams. The wind has been light to medium, rarely exceeding 7mph. Temperatures are in the 70s, overcast sky, horizon to horizon, but it makes a nice break from the past several days.

Live blogging from Friday at the Washington State International Kite Festival. No theme today, the events are very mixed as this is the second busiest day, after Saturday (Sunday is a half day). We have already had the Delta Mass Ascension and the Cellular (box kite) Mass Ascension. They are currently doing Sport Kite Mystery Ballet, with two and four line fliers flying to a song they haven't practised to before. Wind has been heavy all day at 10 to 16 mph. Sunny, nice.

With the wind lessening to a moderate to strong #levante we saw the #migratory flood gates open!

5,087 White #Stork, 4,381 Black #Kites dominated the skies with the gaps full of Egyptian Vultures, Booted & Short-toed #Eagles, European Honey #Buzzards, Montagu´s #Harriers, Black Storks, European Bee-eaters and more!

However many more did not cross - tomorrow more!

Going the other way this vagrant House Bunting came in from The #Straits and spent a couple minutes hanging at our watchpoint!

We estimated today there maybe well over 10,000 Black Kites waiting and desperate to make the crossing !

This #Milanada and bottling up of soaring migrants is ONLY possible due to wind and geography here at the very epicentre of migration ! #TheStraitsofGibraltar

#HappyKiteDay from Terrific Tuesday at the Washington State International Kite Festival. Today's activities have been various. Tuesday has been PunDay, Camp and Ground Display judging, cumulative Team judging, we just had the single line fighter kite demo/class, and individual rokkaku fighting is up next with team rok battles at 3pm. Wind has been heavy with 12-18 mph winds all morning as storm clouds move through, although no rain at the beach so far. Partly sunny.

The #Milanada is on !!

#KiteFest2023 takes hold again with over 5,000 Black #Kites waiting for the #Levante wind to drop and the departure gate of The #Straits to open soon !

#HappyKiteDay people of Mastodon, from the Washington State International Kite Festival. Monday is kite trains and arches day. In another half hour there is going to be a world record attempt for the number of 4 line Rev style kites flown in stacks (kites per person x people flying). This morning was light wind (4-6mph) and sunny, this afternoon is moderate wind, 8-12mph and continued sun. No smoky air on the WA coast. Temp. 65°F in the shade.

What a day of #Raptor #migration #Migration it’s fair to say we are as high as Kites after today !

6.149 Black #Kites, 264 European Bee-eaters, 199 White #Storks, 189 Booted Eagles, 53 Short-toed #Eagles 13 European Honey Buzzards, 3 Egyptian Vultures.

3 Bonelli’s Eagles including an adult that took out a migrating Booted Eagle! A Rüppell’s #Vulture drifted in and an Eleanora’s #Falcon whizzed through !

Today among the #FlywayHighway Black #Kites continue to power through The #Straits with 1,825 making the crossing alongside this mesmerising group over 1,000 White Stork + 3 Black Stork, Egyptian #Vultures, Short-toed and Booted #Eagles European Bee-eaters, #Osprey and going the other way an Eleanora´s #Falcon!

With an increasingly gusty #Levante many decided to delay their crossing ....so tomorrow more!

Today 4,851 Black #Kites, 1,027 White #Storks, 96 Booted Eagles, 142 Short-toed #Eagles, 4 Montagu’s #Harriers and 2 Egyptian #Vultures crossed The #Straits from our chosen watchpoint. Also a juvenile #Lanner #Falcon ripped through our watchpoint. As the wind shifted more Black Kites pushed through the Eastern section of The Straits…..
