The #KlamathRiver dam removal project has broken ground!
Representatives of basin tribes, the Klamath River Renewal Corporation, and Resource Environmental Solutions held a press announcement yesterday to share the news.
The biggest dam removal in history begins with a year of building supportive infrastructure, like roads to get all the heavy equipment in, and facilities for the working crew.

The #Yurok Tribe recruited riparian ecologist Joshua Chenoweth, who helped restore the Elwha River after what was then the biggest dam removal in US history, to help with the massive undertaking on the #KlamathRiver.

' [Yurok Tribe counsel Amy] Cordalis said that [the Bureau of] Reclamation released more water for agriculture last year than was necessary.
“What that did was it drove down [the level of Klamath Lake] really, really far and so we are essentially starting with an empty bathtub,” she said. “[Now the bureau] is]saying, ‘oh, no, we don't have enough for species…and so now we have to decide, which fish are we going to kill?’ ” '
