So I finished the cuff on the second of my Unicorn socks and was just starting on the leg when I came to a join in the yarn. The yarn past the join is not the correct colour. I know I didn't plan on making these socks identical twins but this is ridulous. Here is a picture on top of the colour sequence of the first sock ( no joins). The next colour should be orange and the colour after the join is blue. (Sigh) Guess I'll cut off the part I've already knit and start again.

One sock finished and the second sock cast on before the needles got distracted by another pretty sock yarn. That is 7.5 pairs of socks for 2023. I don't think I'll have 8 pairs done by the end of the month.
The yarn is from Countess Yarn and the colour way is Unicorn. The pattern is a wide ribbed version of a vanilla sock. And I'm not even trying to make them match.

In recent years, I've been exclusively knitting german short-row heels. That said, until recently, I didn't notice the so-called "classic" "standard" heel-flap technique (pic left below) for #vanillasock on YT is different from what I (& friends) learned (pic left above) as a classic technique.

Ok #knitters I am ready to tackle my first sock. I want to use two long corded needles- not DPNs or a magic loop or short cords. I have spent hours searching for a good tutorial. I can find bits and pieces, but not one that will babystep a blithering idiot from cast on to cast off. I don’t speak: “oh, do your favorite heel” or “insert a lifeline here” or pattern abbreviations about leaning mother stitches. Does anyone have a favorite reference video? VICTORY! My partner (also autistic) and I have successfully built a 3D printed circular sock knitting machine, and this weekend I was able to complete the first pair of socks on it! I am so freaking excited!

ANOTHER Progress pic of socks I'm working on for my partner. At this point they're going to be somewhere between knee highs and thigh highs. The ribbing at the top is stretchy so she can just fold it over in the spot she wants to for any length of sock. I'm not doing any changes for the calf because I don't need to. The chunky yarn has plenty of negative ease (stretch). I am knitting taller to account for the horizontal stretch taking up more of the length.
