@teezeh 2003 der erste Kontakt mit #Knoppix live, dann #SuSE dual boot mit Windows XP, ab 2005 ausschließlich #Linux privat. Bisschen rumprobiert, auch mal #Mandriva, dann schnell bei #Ubuntu gelandet, seitdem #Kubuntu.

@freemo Yeah I started with Corellinux years back, went to #knoppix, then #dsl and then to #puppy, as a desktop builder the hdd partitioners that was on those distros was invaluable to me. I have a basic grasp of how everything works, and have for years, but I am only slightly more skilled than a newbie.

Okay, jetzt wird es von mir sehr technisch. Sehr schön ist, dass Klaus Knopper mit dem #ADRIANE, das er mit zu seinem #Knoppix #Linux packt, eine kostenlose Software-Zusammenstellung geschaffen hat, die speziell für die Computer- und Web-Bedienung mit Braillezeile und Sprachausgabe zugeschnitten wurde. Noch schöner ist es, dass Klaus und seine Ehefrau Adriane dafür vom Land #RLP auch ausgezeichnet wurden.

Geglückte #Datensicherung auf ein USB-Stick von einer etwa 30 Jahre alten 3,5 Zoll #Floppy auf einem 20 Jahre altem Rechner mit einem uraltem #Knoppix! Computerromantik pur.

Trotz der ganzen Kröten, die die M$-Opfer seit Jahren mehr oder weniger klaglos - und vielleicht auch unbewusst - schlucken, scheinen andere Software-Pakete mit niedriger Einstiegshürde (z.B. #knoppix) immer noch keine gangbare Alternative zu sein.

Bei Oma Erna aus Bielefeld kann ich das ja nachvollziehen. Der gemeine Aldi-PC-Käufer muss aber anscheinend noch etwas länger LernenDurchLeiden™️.

I was 18 and just broke my little brother windows xp system, so searching about the error on internet I found #linux. Days later I bought a magazine that came with a #Knoppix CD.....I think it was around 1999/2000 ....until now

#knoppix and the gaming distro's will always be tending towards the #SOFTA as there's always new extensions for the hardware, and the urge to have "One more try"... :D

What are folks using these days for "something is weird with this hardware, lemme slap a boot-usb in and run memtest/parted/etc" #linux recovery distros?

(besides "hope your normal desktop/server distro's install usb iso has the specific recovery/test tool you want")

Surely #knoppix isn't still the state of the art?

(I would normally continue futzing with my hybrid install/rescue #nixos live-usb, but their memtest module seems to be broken or maybe BIOS-only, and I don't have brain today)

Stimmt nicht ganz #Knoppix, kann man sowohl ein verschlüsseltes overlay/datenpartition benutzen als auch updaten, sobalt es eine neue Version gibt. Lediglich Sicherheitsupdates gibt es nur eingeschränkt (siehe auch den #clt2023 Vortrag)

When you need to do certain #maintenance tasks (such as replacing the root partition) or need to #troubleshoot boot issues of a #Linux machine, a common way to do this is by booting the machine from a live/rescue image and then chroot into the installed OS.

After I mounted the OS-partition (just /dev/sda1 in this case) and the other required run-time partitions in #Knoppix, I ran into an error:

@grumpy_copi hab den Sprung aber erst mit #Knoppix 2 geschafft. (Man, regelmäßig den LAN-Treiber kompilieren und laden 😅) Mit #Suse steh ich nach wie vor auf Kriegsfuß, auch #RedHat basiertes mag ich nach wie vor nicht. #Debian #Raspbian oder #Ubuntu it is… je nach Einsatz.

#Lernstick sollte das können.

#Knoppix, #Kanotix oder #DebianLive können IMO auch eine persistente Ramdisk einbinden, ist aber schon länger her bei mir.

Alles andere, was mir geläufig ist wird auf der Festplatte installiert.

Das geht zwar auch mit PXE oder Bootimages relativ problemlos und schnell wiederherzustellen, aber ist dann aber halt kein Live-System.
