Everyone calls him the god of water. Shinobu doesn’t have to ask why. When Giyu mounts his board and paddles out into the surf, its like the water itself greets him.

She hates him for it.

Her sister was also an incredible surfer. Better than most men. Better maybe even than Giyu.

But that didn’t stop the ocean from taking her away on a shift in tide and a mound of rock.

Shinobu will never forgive the ocean.

“Are you sure you don’t want to come out here?” Giyu asks her. “It will help.”

“Does it?” Shinobu snaps back. “To sit in the mouth of my sister’s murderer knowing it cared so little for her life?”

“Then come out here for me,” Giyu says, only once. “Because I miss her too.”

Did Giyu know her sister?
That was not something that Kanae ever spoke about.

Shinobu finally paddles out, and meets Giyu in the waves. They calm the moment she approaches him.

“Tell me about my sister,” Shinobu demands.
Giyu merely smiles.

“She only loved two things: the ocean, and you. And I promised her if anything happened, I would carry on her love.”

Shinobu blushes; it really did help.
