Amazing piece of work.
I bet you won't be able to tell it's entirely handwritten in assembly.

I just ran my first OS in #virtualbox . #kolibrios booted in mere seconds. Full GUI OS written in #assembler has just under 40MB in livecd iso version. 128MB ram allocated, but this system can run on 4MB. I am intriguied!

@markearnest May I recommend KolibriOS (for weekend fun)? Really impressive, super tiny and written entirely in x86 asm.

Another project that comes to mind is SymbOS – its main purpose was to demonstrate that an OS with "look & feel" of Windows 95 is possible to run on 8-bit (Z80) computers of the 1980s.

Zadziwiające jak potężne i wydajne procesory i sprzętowe sterowniki montują w naszych smartfonach, tabletach czy laptopach by udźwignąć skrajnie gównianie zoptymalizowany soft, jaki trafia do rąk konsumenta. Miliardy Hz taktowania, a systemy operacyjne czasem sprawiają wrazenie, że taktowane są analogowym budzikiem. Niestety mineły bezpowrotnie czasy, gdy systemy od A do Z były pisane w asemblerze, były krótkie i nie potrzebowały GHz taktowania do sprawnego i szybkiego działania.

Jako ciekawostkę proponuję zalukać na system operacyjny dla architektury PC - i586 taki jak np. KolibriOS. Zajmuje ok. 1,5Mb jest napisany w 100% w ASM , obsluguje wielozadaniowość, FAT16/32 i NTFS, wymaga 8Mb do działania i posiada graficzne GUI. Uruchamia sie w sekunde nawet z pendrive na 15 letnim komputerze. W tych 1,5Mb zmiescilo sie tez kilkadziesiąt programow w tym przegladarka WEB. Tak powinny byc pisane systemy ❤️

Niestety OS jest tyle wart, co ilość oprogramowania na niego 🤷🏻‍♂️ Dlatego to tylko ciekawostka.

#OneWeekOneDistro week 10 (equator passed): #KolibriOS

A lovely minimalistic system, totally independent, written in assembly, with a nice GUI and lots of tiny fancy apps. Boots in a fraction of second, able to connect to the network with my Ethernet card, and built-in browser can even show some simple sites!

#KolibriOS semble être le moins gourmand et le plus rapide des systèmes d'exploitation.

Seulement 8Mo en RAM et boot en 10s sur de tout petit PC !
