A coot eating a plant that it pulled off of the bottom of the pond.

I cropped this one wide, to show the concentric rings coming off of the bird. The outer rings are from when it dove for the food. The inner rings are from its current movement as it eats.

(I think it's a coot. I don't know what that coloration at the base of the neck is. Some plant material? If it's feather color, then I guess this isn't a coot.)

An egret hanging out in a tree.

While I was focussing on this guy, two coyotes ran in front of me, no more than about 3-4 meters.

A birdwatcher said "Didn't you see those coyotes?!"

I said "No. I was too fixated to notice the world around me."

A bunch of birds taking off from a pond. I heard the sudden commotion and tried to grab a shot. I got this trippy impressionistic shot instead.

I think these are Canada geese, but I don't remember.

This looks very similar to, but not exactly like, the great blue heron in my bird book. I'll go with that. And so I decree it to be!

I haven't done a lot of nature photography, so my results are uneven. This image, I think, is interesting, but maybe not visually pleasing.

That's a lot of branches. Does that protect the duck from predators? Or is it just a duck who likes to live in a messy home?

This is a breached dam. I don't know when this occurred. I assume that the remains of the dam wouldn't last long after the water starts shooting through the hole.

There is some debris that I don't recognize on the right-hand side of the image. Fishing gear? Or was some asshole trying to destroy the dam?
