Pulled some Kona EV modules out on the bench this weekend and got them talking over CAN. For example, the quite simple Shift Selector Switch (literally four buttons with LEDs!) Now with some DBC file entries at https://github.com/projectgus/hyundai-kona-ev-can-logs/tree/main/dbc
and a very basic control program at
https://github.com/projectgus/car_hacking/blob/main/hyundai_kona_ev/shift_select_switch.py

Have been playing around with Cabana, the web-based open source CAN reverse engineering tool that comma.ai make.
I've gotten it to run locally without any of comma.ai's API, and with locally hosted videos and logs (nothing I'm doing is self-driving related so it's a poor fit for comma.ai's model, but it's still a good tool for syncing CAN log data with videos of us mucking around in our crashed Konas).
Finally got that working pretty well (see screenshot). Then today I realised that Comma.ai have deprecated this web-based UI and have a new Qt-based Cabana with a bunch of extra features, and official support for locally stored data (albeit still in their log format). 🤦♂️

Another blog post in this series on dismantling a Kona Electric for future EV Conversion use: https://www.projectgus.com/2023/03/ev-conversion-two/
Published a new blog post about ongoing EV conversion project:

Still back a bit in the past, but caught up to about two months ago now...
Auspicious day[*], we're going to start dismantling the crashed Kona!
I've started a thread on OpenInverter about where we are up to, as well:

[*] Also the first day under 30 this week
Took the opportunity to CAN log a short DC fast charge session before we took Oli's smashed Kona off his truck. Should come in handy later. #EVs #EVConversions #KonaHacking

Local EV conversions may be coalescing around Hyundai Kona parts after my mate Oli got a 2021 model as salvage for a very reasonable price. Here we are picking it up in his 1974 model Toyota Dyna.
Hopefully this gives me the nudge I need to finish figuring out the control protocols for my crashed 2019 model...
