@keithzg @kpeace @aral My point was that the #Konqueror devs had to have bootstrapped with another #browser (probably #Netscape’s) that can trace its “lineage” to #NCSAMosiac.

I really doubt it was a text-mode browser like #Lynx. Almost every GUI browser since #Mosaic has looked and acted much like it.

If you ask me, the top approach was #KDE's with #Konqueror and #KPart: reusable components like text editor, shell, document viewer and web browser that could be re-mixed in different apps including an all-in-one like Konqueror

Why is it that #Falkon and #Konqueror can leverage KIO to provide generic protocol access, and #OtterBrowser can leverage the extensive Qt image format support when using the QtWebKit engine to support more exotic formats (or the new #JpegXL standard), but neither #Chrome nor #Firefox nor #Vivaldi offer comparable extensibility?
I'm sure somebody will try to make a claim about “security”, but I very strongly doubt that's anywhere close to the actual reason.

@nixCraft You have to substract 0.0001% from the yellow bar, because my @Vivaldi identifies as Chrome for practical reasons. :-)

Actually I asked myself recently why even I moved away from #Firefox (and #Konqueror ) to something else. And there is not one single answer. But includes lots of upgrades that required me to start fresh, because profiles got crushed and features and options had been removed/changed.

Somehow it lost me. I have it still installed and every once in a while I use it.

@charlietuna @donmelton Fun fact: #Safari is based on #Konqueror (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konqueror). And to their credit, Apple has given a lot back to the open source community. :)

(At least, #WebKit, the engine that powers Safari, is based on #KHTML, the engine that powers Konqueror. WebKit was then forked to make #Blink, the engine that powers #Chrome and all #Chromium based browsers.)

My understanding is that FF has been losing market share, BUT, it still has like 8 to 9% of the worldwide desktop market share. That is easily tens of millions and maybe 100s of millions of users.

I wouldn't worry yet. And, as others have pointed out, there are several FF-based browsers, as well several other FOSS browsers. #KDE could revitalize #Konqueror if the net needed them to.

Er konnte mir leider nicht helfen. Erst mal konnte er nichts damit anfangen, dass ich #konqueror als Browser einsetze.

Der Download des Programms hat dann funktioniert. Aber ich konnte dem irgendwie nicht verklickern, dass auf meinem #debian keine Exe-Dateien gehen.

@kura @ocean @atoponce what about #Konqueror? Based on #kHTML or so and probably only partly maintained, still neat.

Week 2 of #OneWeekOneDistro: this time #Q4OS - a Debian based distribution with #TDE (aka #Trinity desktop) by default. I like this good old KDE3 experience in general, even though keyboard layout switching didn't work out-of-box. And one horrible thing about the distro - they offer Google Chrome in default set. WTF, you do already have a nice #Konqueror native for TDE!

#konqueror is actually not /that/ abandoned, i guess?

i'm still not going to use it, but i always thought it looked sort of adorable so like, shoutout to those guys!

@0PT41N I noticed some differences between both, like the location of the tab placement. #konqueror has the tabs below the URL bar while #falkon has the tabs above the URL bar.
