What's everyone's favourite reader on ? Preferably something that'll let me use my own fonts.

I've been using , which I don't hate.

I'm a fan of the Malabar my came with for . But w/ , I can't seem to use any of the included system fonts unless they're free to begin with (or maybe it uses its own fonts entirely). Malabar isn't one of those. Looking at instructions for loading custom fonts for KOreader, it suggests Volkorn. Volkorn font has a lot of what I like about Malabar, especially the medium font, & is a great alternative. If you're looking for something similar, I recommend it.

After having a for a few years, I finally got curious enough to see what is. My main interest in it was the additional features it has for over , the reading application Kobo readers come with by default. FYI, if you have a Libra 2 like I do, or another device that's had some hardware quirks w/ KOreader according to the installation guide, grab a nightly version until a new stable is released. The nightlies have changes that seem to fix them. 🧵

is great. I just noticed that the time on my had got out of sync, and went to set the clock. It's just three clicks to go to settings and then 'synchronise clock', and it turns on wifi does the sync and turns wifi off again. Much better than the default Kobo interface!

The combination of and for my reader is fantastic. I'm travelling. Forgot the cable to connect the Kobo to my laptop. I needed to transfer a book (Triptych by Karin Slaughter) from the laptop to the reader. Simple: connect both to the same LAN, start the server in calibre and then tell the Kobo (via koreader) to connect to calibre. Book transferred and I'm happily reading now!

As one of the maintainers of KOReader, a versatile a document and image viewer, I'm proud to announce the latest release.

It's been another busy month squashing many bugs. Our Mac users will be happy to hear that I told macOS we've supported HiDPI since long before anyone came up with such terminology (#10341), and that the program can now natively build on

I've been a user for many years - from the first Google Reader refugees exodus, up to the point where they made things like IFTTT or Evernote integrations only available for paid accounts.

I already saw where the company was headed back then. And I acknowledged that, had I been at the head of such a business, I probably would have taken the same decisions as well. Because there's just no easy/painless way of monetizing RSS/Atom feeds that doesn't involve either monetizing basic features, or scooping up more user data.

Once I acknowledged this simple truth, I decided that I would have never trusted again anybody who allured me into keeping my feed subscriptions on their computers.

Some tips to the Feedly refugees on what I've been using in the past years as alternatives:

- . I just love it. Clean, versatile, well-documented, it even allows you to customize the CSS from the control panel. NextCloud News is also a good alternative, but I found it to be heavier, less customizable and with less available integrations.

- . An amazing alternative to Evernote/Pocket etc., and it even comes with a native Miniflux integration to synchronize the saved articles.

On the mobile side:

- . It's optimized for e-ink devices, so it may look a bit spartan the first time, but it's probably one of the most powerful mobile apps I've ever used. It really runs everywhere, included my old e-ink Mobiscribe tablet that still runs Android Marshmallow. On top of being an amazing ebook reader that integrates natively with any OPDS stream, it also integrates natively with , so you can read your saved articles on any Android device. It also offers its own self-hosted sync service inspired by Whispersync. And it also integrates with WebDAV, so you can even synchronize your NextCloud files, notes or ebooks. It also supports RSS feeds, but I don't use it for that - first because it doesn't (yet?) integrate with Miniflux/NextCloud News, secondly because it basically pre-fetches and converts all the articles into ePUB format, which is far from ideal if you're subscribed to many high-volume feeds.

- The News app (f-droid.org/en/packages/co.app) as an alternative to the Feedly app. It's very well-designed, and it integrates with both Miniflux and NextCloud News.

Happy migration!

I’ve read two books since putting on my kindle. I don’t think I could go back. I find the dictionary support to be vastly superior as a language learner, and I love following my reading statistics. I’m only just scratching the surface of everything available though
