For this week’s #Korean short story, I’ve decided to start this collection of linked short stories by Kwak Jaesik (곽 재식).
The stories take place in 1948 and 1949, so the very beginning of the First Republic of Korea.
It’s the first time I’m reading detective stories in this setting!

I started an audiobook in Korean. I only listened to 40 minutes (the time of my run), and I love the beginning!
It’s a 층간소음 미스터리 (noisy neighbours mystery). 💥
It’s written by 윤자영 (Yun Jayeong), my favourite Korean author of detective novels! No wonder it’s so good!
The audiobook is a welaaa original (a service similar to audible for Korean audiobooks).

I finished part 1 of the first volume of 시체를 보는 사나이 (The man who sees dead bodies) by 공한K (Gonghan K). The whole story is 3 volumes long, and each volume is divided into two parts. I finished the book on the left, and I already have part 2 (the book on the right) ready for February!
The story is a light mystery/thriller, very entertaining and easy to read in #Korean.
My aim is to read one book per month, so I will finish this series in June, hopefully!
I'm almost done with the book プラナリア but I'm not liking the last short story so I hope I can finish it this weekend.
I also started reading my first Korean book and, although it is not a novel or short stories like I prefer, it's good practice for my level and has interesting points about Korean etiquette and society. The book is called 생활 속 한국문화 77!

I participated in a reading challenge this year and read one #Korean book a month (more than I had ever read before)!
Some favourites are:
1- 밀지 마세요, 사람 탑니다, an anthology of stories from different authors and genres that take place in the subway.
2- 홍학의 자리 by Jeong Haeyeon (정해연). Excellent and engrossing murder mystery, by far the easiest book I read in Korean this year.
3- 재생 by Jeong Myeongseop (정명섭). A zombie time loop thriller!

Bought my first Korean book since moving to Korea: 한국 괴물 백과 by 곽재식 (The Encyclopedia of Korean Monsters by Kwak Jae-sik). Can't read a word of it but I will use random entries as translation exercises for my students (as well as enjoy the illustrations) #Book #Korea #KoreanBook #Monsters
