#GameDev : I just discover #Löve, a #framework to make #2Dgames in #Lua. Free, #opensource and usable on Linux, macOS, Windows, Android and iOS » https://love2d.org

I've been experimenting with game frameworks in between client work recently (please contact me if you can give me more client work!). My criteria: 2D, nothing that requires a custom/crappy IDE (so Unity and Godot are out, as are anything that requires C# until there's a C# editor that's not non-native ass on macOS), can create games targeting macOS and Windows (HTML/JS don't count), a strongly-typed, preferably compiled, C-like language. So my choice? #LÖVE, AKA #love2d.
"But wait!" you say.
This years Adventure Jam started a couple hours ago and I joined again.
I will write a daily devlog, you can find it and eventually the game over there: https://gamejolt.com/games/darts_2/614386

I'm having two weeks off, started scratching my creative itch by learning some game development with Harvard's free GameDev course:
https://cs50.harvard.edu/games/2018/
I'm already worrying about cloud-scale architecture, agile and advisory topics at work, so I can do something fun in my free time.
Already made it through Pong and currently working on Flappy Bird.

@emptyfortress From what I've seen Godot's audio functionality is relatively simple.
1. create an audio stream from a file.
2. load it into and audiostreamplayer with setStream()
3. play()
Some code docs:
https://docs.godotengine.org/en/3.1/classes/class_audiostreamplayer2d.html
GUI tutorial: https://docs.godotengine.org/en/3.1/tutorials/audio/audio_streams.html#doc-audio-streams
For my favortie engine Love2D:
love.audio.newSource("pewpew.wav", "static" ):play()

@Alamantus I can only recommend learning game programming with #löve! I did a game for my girlfriend with it once and although it was a lot of work, it turned out great! Also, I just love the simplicity and elegance of #lua.
A few years ago, I had a great idea for a game. But it was too ambitious, and I never got anywhere. The other day in the shower, I figured out a way to test the idea - but with a much smaller, more limited game. I think I can do it this time, with the scope I set. It will still have all the mechanics the full game will eventually have, but a smaller scope, a shorter story allows me to explore whether the idea even works.
