Not sure if I mentioned this in my intro or my bio so I'll say it here:

If the workers go on strike, I will support them every👏🏽 time👏🏽.

If my packages arrive late, they arrive late. If my favorite show gets delayed, it's delayed. Services slow down, manufacturing shuts down, trains planes and automobiles cutting off, no strawberries at the supermarket, don't care.

The workers come first!

Yet another participant of the , and I left after the API changes killed accessibility.

I love a good story and I'm addicted to learning. I'll boost anything that fits the bill and try to participate, even if I get a little bit of social anxiety. Let me drop some hashtags to let you know what I'm interested in:

We're not just seeing some unhappy end users looking for a shiny new app, we're seeing people trying to create new strategies to support new forms of work. 4/4

"More than 150 workers whose labor underpins the AI systems of Facebook, TikTok and ChatGPT gathered in Nairobi on Monday and pledged to establish the first African Content Moderators Union, in a move that could have significant consequences for the businesses of some of the world’s biggest tech companies."

This is probably the best article on the state of everything right now, including global instability, labour struggles particularly in Ontario (incl. ), the cost of living crisis as an attack on workers, and what it's going to take to get out of this mess.

Going into this year with my eyes open, and mind right. , midnightsunmag.ca/beyond-the-r

Happy Anniversary to the great Sit-down Strike of 1936, which began at a GM Fisher Body Plant in Flint, Michigan. Arguably the most successful strike in US history. Check out this letter from a UAW organizer to his fellow workers. “The remedy is in your hands!” From Edward McClelland’s Midnight in Vehicle City:

Labor "peace" was only one part of a larger Federal agenda for rail over the previous several decades, all of which were aimed at maintaining and expanding profits for rail owners — at the expense of rail workers, customers, farmers, and communities. The Esch-Cummins Act of 1920, which returned the U.S. rail system to private hands after its nationalization during WWI, set the stage: paying railroad owners for any trouble caused by public control, establishing minimum shipping rates (to prevent prices going down as a result of competition), and encouraging consolidation of the rail system.

The emergence of railroad capitalists, and their behavior in regards to workers, customers, and the state, served as a model and harbinger for industries to come.

The nature of the rail system — it's a natural monopoly — meant that while profits were massive, any labor disruption could cripple the U.S. economy, as was threatened by the Great Railroad Strike of 1877 and the 1894 Pullman Strike. The Railway Labor Act of 1926 was the last of several attempts by Congress to regulate labor disputes on the rails, each of the previous ones failing due to toothlessness or clear bias toward the rail owners.

The capitalist state will always prioritize the interests of capital over that of workers, except when workers organize, mobilize, and disrupt sufficiently to make the state change course. The ability for the Federal government to impose a new labor contract unilaterally on rail workers stems from that prioritization. Whether it does, and the nature of that contract, depends on the militancy of the workers and the general status of the class struggle.

If you work in games in Ireland, listen to Michael D. Higgins and join Game Workers Unite Ireland. It’s time we brought more democracy into our workplaces. independent.ie/irish-news/news

Our parent union, FSU, also organises with animation workers and tech workers even though they started as a banking workers union. So if you work in any of those industries join us!
