A lot of people want a #Progressive party in the United States (or even think the Democrats are progressive 🤣).

Ignoring the horrible racist past of the Progressive Movement and Party at the start of the 20th c, I'd almost prefer a #LaborParty

Not that labor parties are perfect or inherently anti racist but they are usually anti oligarch and at least somewhat anti capitalist.

We have a so-called progressive government led by someone who was brought up by a sole parent in public housing. #Albo used to be considered a #socialist. He espouses #LaborParty values, yet we have this gulag, #Nauru, a tropical hell hole that costs half a billion dollars per year to detain indefinitely and without charge, 22 refugees. That is $22m per year for each one of these poor souls. And for what? And what else could this half a billion be spent on that would show compassion, improve the lives of Australians and the people who come too us for help?

The Australian government's can-kicking climate philosophy has captured business, media and climate wonks. Those repeating the IPCC get dismissed as reckless and foolhardy.

"Easily the biggest point in the report echoes a point stated by the International Energy Agency in early 2021: in a world where we’re trying as hard as possible, we stop building new fossil fuel infrastructure at the same time as massively reducing demand for fossil fuels.

“Estimates of future CO2 emissions from existing fossil fuel infrastructures without additional abatement already exceed the remaining carbon budget for limiting warming to 1.5°C (50%)”, write the IPCC. “Projected cumulative future CO2 emissions over the lifetime of existing and planned fossil fuel infrastructure, if historical operating patterns are maintained and 12 without additional abatement, are approximately equal to the remaining carbon budget for limiting warming to 2°C with a likelihood of 83%”."

In the #USA, the most valuable form of capital is #Labor, yet there has never been legitimate political representation of workers in this country. The Democratic Party once pretended to represent workers while persecuting some as "anarchists" & "communists". The charade ended in the 1980's when the Democrats publicly severed ties with workers & embraced plutocrats who along with their predecessors have controlled that party since its founding. The #USA needs a #LaborParty.
