We will not have an election called this year I think - but #starmer will not be able to spend 12 months without making some commitments that will have to appear in the #nextGe #labourManifesto

the #NHS is in a terrible state - I expect the #toriesOut to try and leverage that for further privatisation - I expect that to be opposed

Never forget #starmer is a #lawyer - and was for many years unlike #planks like #billCash. So he is very cautious making commitments

Let us see what is in the #labourManifesto on the #EU - I suspect he will avoid any commitment till that is published - why would he?

I think an undertaking to join the #singleMarket is unlikely to be in the #nextGE manifesto - but it might be in the one for subsequent GE. I look for signs #labour will align with #EU this time

Well we still have some time to go till #labourManifesto is published - that is what counts, not what is or is not said now. My feeling is first #labour term of the new era will be key - if #brexit is expelled as a cause with any popular support then #manifesto for subsequent term will be bolder

better an over-cautious #labour administration than a repeat of the #2019 disaster

I think rejoining the #EU is out of scope next parliament because the #eu would not countenance any approach and #starmer will not risk any commitment to #reverse #brexit - electorally I fear he is right to minimise any such talk

What happens after that is to be determined - the #labourManifesto after next is the one that matters

I understand - my argument is mostly with naive tactics #proEU posts push - you do not resolve the car-crash of the current EU:UK deal by putting something in the #labourManifesto that can't be acheived.

IMO short term much can be acheived under "make brexit work" to help trade - but negotiating #singleMarket entry from where we are now takes more than a parliament - I hope for it in a 2028 #labourManifesto

leaving #EU was non-trivial - so is (re)joining the #singleMarket

I think what many are after is a #labourManifesto commitment to rejoining the #singleMarket
& #customsUnion

But it is pretty clear #Starmer has concluded this would be a mistake and threaten victory in the next Election - unlike his predecessor he will get only one shot. He is a cautious cove and will not take the risk - he knows the #Left have nowhere else to go (personally I would welcome an increase in the Green vote, but they will only get the one seat as usual)
