Researched: Salford's John O'Brien senior. Joined 4th (Militia) Bn Manchester Regiment 1893 and served with 2nd Bn in Boer War. Re-enlisted into South Lancs Rgt 1914, but went to France in 1917 with 18th Infantry Labour Company of King's (Liverpool). Became 83rd Labour Company of the Labour Corps and worked on light railway construction.
