draft - Google thank you for lacros on chromeOS. could we get the ability to sign into a second *device-level / OS-level user account* while Lacros is enabled? thank you
currently when enabling the Lacros-as-default flag on chromeOS116, when trying to sign into a second *device-level/OS-level* user account outside the browser, we are greeted with:
"Signing in a second user is not supported while the Lacros browser is running. Please use a second browser profile in Lacros instead or close Lacros and try again."

draft - i gotta say, chromeOS is feeling a little bit paltry. i mean, yes, they're trying to be sort of "light weight". but can't they also just be a "newer" operating system than the old behemoths? like, let us have lacros AND multiple users. i mean maybe they will when it gets out of beta. but yeah.

I enabled #Lacros on my Asus #Chromebook and set it to be the primary browser.
Tests out really well.
I will now get browser updates and PeacockTV is still accessible.

#ChromeOS is splitting the #browser from the OS, getting more #Linux-y
There's nothing official yet, but it might launch sometime this month.
#Lacros which #Google says stands for "Linux And ChRome OS." rescues #Chromebooks by extending their lifespans.Chromebooks comes with a best-before date, after which it will stop receiving automatic upgrades. Enabling Lacros makes it possible to install newer versions after a #Chromebook's Automatic Update Expiration (#AUE) date

🆕 blog post -- How #Lacros improves #Chrome profile switching on #Chromebooks
Need to use multiple #Google accounts on the same device? Here’s how the Lacros browser will improve profile switching on Chromebooks.

Yeah, I pointed this out last week. They've even intimated they're keeping the native #ChromeOS browser as a get out of jail card when #LaCrOS inevitably breaks.
Time to change daily drivers.

🆕 blog post -- Lacros on Chromebooks transition plan won’t be quick
Last week I noted that #ChromeOS 116 is the likely beginning for #Google to decouple the #Chrome browser from ChromeOS. This effort has taken nearly three years so far and there’s no near-term end in sight. Based on details shared by Google, the #Lacros on #Chromebooks transition plan won’t be quick. Expect it to last for a year.

This is going to get kill most of CrosKeys' functionality and is the beginning of the end for #ChromeOS development. I expect they want everything going forward to just be an #Android app.

ChromeOS is an operating system designed around a web browser. But over the years it's picked up a bunch of other features. So Google has been working to separate the browser from the OS in order to deliver updates more frequently. The change could take effect when ChromeOS 116 rolls out later this month. https://www.aboutchromebooks.com/news/chromeos-116-may-begin-the-lacros-browser-push-to-chromebooks/

Welp... Looks like #LaCrOS is going to add more fun to #ChromeOS. I only hope #Google works out most of the kinks before we get there.

🆕 blog post -- ChromeOS 116 may begin the Lacros browser push to Chromebooks
After covering Google’s effort to separate the Chrome browser from #ChromeOS for over two years, it appears nearly ready. with #ChromeOS 116 The #Lacros project uses the #Linux browser for ChromeOS instead of the integrated browser. The idea is that browser updates can be pushed quicker to #Chromebooks instead of waiting for a full ChromeOS update.

@BPlanZ #Google has been working on #lacros for some time now. It's basically a #linux #chrome browser that's separate from #ChromeOS. Theoretically, you could use this to get the latest updates to the browser indefinitely. Between this and #Crostini you should be able to keep using the #chromebook for longer without having to install anything on it.
You can try it by going to chrome://flags and search for lacros and enable flags you want to experiment with.
