I feel continually blessed that my son is marrying a wonderful young lady. Her family is Sephardic (so yeah, mixed marriage, you know?) and today I learned some Ladino.

Celtic Christmas Sojourn's special guest is #Ladino singer Lily Henley. Really enjoying her music.

For all the talk of the U.S. becoming a much worse place for #Jews it's amazing and heartwarming to turn on NPR and hear a whole radio special on #Hannukah complete with #Yiddish and #Ladino songs.

Sometimes, out of fear, I think we forget how much opportunity and acceptance in broader culture we've gained in this country. It's not something to take for granted.

Most of us in #MedinatAmerica speak Standard American #Hebrish, which also includes quite a bit of vocabulary from #Yiddish, and also #Ladino, #Bukharian, and so forth.

But the hashtags were for anyone trying to find content like my post, even if not searching in Yiddish.

My son in law /cousin is 1/2 Sephardic (father's side ) .His Grandmother grew up speaking Ladino.They left Turkey in the 30s and ended up in Chile.

One of my interests is in historical #Judaism.
Came across this fascinating video about the two other large branches, not the United States #Ashkenazi Jews, who often speak #Yiddish, a German Russian dialect.

#Sephardic Jews' have a #Ladino dialect developed from Hebrew, Portuguese, Spanish, Turkish, and Greek.

#Mizrahi Jews use a dialect with a background of Arabic, Persian, and other Asian languages.

Google “three types of Jews” it returns reform, classic, and conservative #Ashkenazi
